Stereotypes of Africa

Thank you very much, Steve Ojoo, for having broadened our knowledge about Africa and helping us reflect on our prejudices during your talk on Monday in conncetion with the International Weeks against Racism. It was very insightful indeed!

-> Open in a new Window

Teaching materials and media often reproduce colonial pictures of Africa and feed racist ideas. In many cases, Africa is associated with poverty and primitiveness. Yet, more often than not, this perception is based on misinformation, lack of knowledge, and stereotypes.
Steven Ojoo will deconstruct colonial knowledge in his web talk and shine a light on innovation and prosperity in Africa.

Steven Ojoo has lived and worked on three continents. He is employed as a lecturer in Intercultural Communication and Team Efficiency at the Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University and holds degrees in Public Administration, Philosophy (BA) and Cultural Management (MA) from Kenya and Germany respectively.

The web talk is organized by the International Association of World Heritage Professionals and the Deutsch Englische Club Bamberg (DECB) within the framework of the International Weeks against Racism. The event is funded by the „Partnerschaft für Demokratie in der Stadt Bamberg“ within the framework of the federal programme “Demokratie leben!” by the BMFSFJ. The web talk does not represent an expression of opinion by the BMFSFJ or the BAFzA. The speaker is responsible for the content of his statements.

You can use this link to join the presentation from 18.00—19.00 CET. Please beware that you may be required to update your Zoom software to join the meeting.

“Berlin Modernism Housing Estates”
Public Event by IAWHP e.V.

The members of the International Association of World Heritage Professionals e.V. were invited to a visit of the UNESCO World Heritage Site “Berlin Modernism Housing Estates” led by the Berlin State Monuments Office. The property consists of several housing estates that testify to innovative housing policies from 1910 to 1933, especially during the Weimar Republic, when the city of Berlin was particularly progressive socially, politically, and culturally.
